We still have a knife sharpener here who comes on a bicycle and announces his presence with panpipes. But his visits are far and few between now. I hope to rush out and take a photo next time I hear him. I'm so glad that I lived in Mallorca years ago and my two daughters grew up hearing the sound of those panpipes, as well as the conch shell being blown by the ambulating fish monger. Another nostalgic sound which heralded the end of the day was that of the newspaper vendors calling out "Ultima Horaaaaa" on street corners. Saludos, Sharon.

I am English, my husband is from California and we have lived here in Mallorca for one year now. I read your photoblog everyday and have found it very helpful in understanding the Mallorcan culture and way of life - which is why we came. A huge thank you and please keep up the good work! It's evident that you really love this island and its people.
Last week my husband and I were talking about links between Mallorca and Hawaii, particularly Honolulu. I was surprised and thrilled when I read on your blog the next morning about the beach safety conference and Kaala who had come to speak from...Honolulu! Through the link to his website we were able to get in contact with him and had a fantastic meeting at the weekend. We are now pursuing possible connections between the islands. We would never have met had it not been for your blog. Thank you. What you are writing is not only interesting and informative, it is very important for Mallorca and it's history and heritage.
PS. We are also sad that we will not be having turkey this Thanksgiving, but we'll make do with a chicken!

A great photo and a common theme, it's correct that telefonica is not alone in their lack of customer service ... but the fact that nearly everyone has to use them at some point means they do get a lot of bad press. after changing my provider a few times, they certainly aren't the worst, better the devil you know sometimes.
